There is also a maturity gap that is easy to underestimate. Classical systems have well understood training practices, validation methods, deployment patterns, and monitoring strategies. Their failure modes are familiar. They can be made predictable enough to operate at scale, making consequential decisions millions of times per day. Generative systems remain harder to constrain. Their outputs are probabilistic in ways that complicate assurance. Hallucination is not an edge case. For high stakes operational decisions, this matters.

Data deserves its own emphasis. All AI depends on data, but the dependency is shaped differently. Whether it can commit to unglamorous investments in data quality and classical AI that compound slowly, while the pressure to announce something new keeps rising.
Generative AI has earned attention. That is not in dispute. But the systems that optimize core processes, that turn data into decisions at scale, remain the structural core of AI impact. They predate the current wave, and they will outlast it.

The real challenge is: over time, it becomes clear that progress depends less on adopting the latest tools and more on the foundations that are expected to hold under pressure.
